Credentialing matters in M&A because the work is high stakes and there is no single regulator policing the field. Different credentials govern different parts of the practice. Duran Advisors' senior leadership holds eight active certifications across sell-side M&A, exit planning, value growth, main street brokerage, and post-closing integration, on purpose, so one advisor at the firm can cover the work that often gets handed off to specialists elsewhere. Founder Joel F. Duran personally holds each of the credentials listed below.

Active certifications

M&AMI2016–2024
Mergers & Acquisitions Master Intermediary, the senior designation from M&A Source and IBBA. Requires 172+ logged education hours plus active deal-flow demonstration. The credential that says the firm runs sell-side M&A engagements at a master level.
CM&AADec 2020
Certified M&A Advisor, Alliance of Merger & Acquisition Advisors (AM&AA). The professional designation for middle-market M&A practitioners. Anchors Duran Advisors' work to AM&AA standards across the full deal lifecycle.
CM&APNov 2022
Certified M&A Professional, Kennesaw State University's executive M&A program. The academic counterpart to the practitioner designations, with curriculum built around the legal, financial, and operational mechanics of a transaction.
CEPAApr 2021
Certified Exit Planning Advisor, Exit Planning Institute. Earns the right to use EPI's Value Acceleration Methodology natively, which is the 3-Gate framework behind Duran Advisors' exit planning engagements.
CVGAFall 2024
Certified Value Growth Advisor. The prescriptive layer of value improvement, the 8 operational functions Duran Advisors uses to prioritize where AI and automation get applied during Gate 2 of an exit plan.

Certified Value Builder™, The Value Builder System. Credential to deliver the Value Builder Score and the 8 Drivers of Value methodology that diagnose where a business sits today, before the firm starts moving the needle.

Certified Acquisition Integration Manager, Intista. Specialization in post-closing integration. What happens after the wire hits, which is where a lot of deals quietly underperform.

Certified Main Street Business Broker, Sunbelt Business Brokers. The foundation credential covering smaller-end transactions and main street deal discipline. The first credential Joel Duran earned in the field.
LA Real EstateSep 2011
Louisiana Real Estate Salesperson, License #995683489. Required by Louisiana for transactions that include a real estate component, which covers most of the deals Duran Advisors works.
